Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre — Mysuru, India
A physician-founded Ayurvedic healing centre in Mysuru, Karnataka
Dr Talavane Krishna came to Ayurveda by way of the operating theatre. He trained as a physician at the University of Mysore, completed anaesthesiology training and postgraduate qualifications in the UK and North America, and spent more than three decades practising in leading hospitals in the USA. For the past 25 years he has guided Indus Valley Ayurvedic Centre, known as IVAC, in Mysuru, into a destination for Ayurveda, yoga and preventive health.
The centre says its deeper inspiration began with his guru, Guru Sri Ranga Mysore, whose understanding of Vedic culture, Ayurveda and Nadi Vijnyan shaped its philosophical foundation and encouraged a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern medical thinking. Its care draws on classical Ayurvedic principles and Kerala's Ashta Vaidya lineage. In his founder's message on the centre's site, Dr Krishna writes: "Authenticity is our floor, not our promise."
The centre stands in Mosambayanhalli Village, off Suttur Road in Mysore Taluk. Guests stay in nature-surrounded cottages, deluxe air-conditioned rooms or private villas, for anywhere from one night to 29. Doctors assess each guest's constitution (Prakriti) and current imbalance (Vikriti), then tailor treatment, diet, yoga and lifestyle to match. Therapy follows two pathways: Shamana Chikitsa, which pacifies and restores, and Shodhana Chikitsa, which purifies, with Panchakarma among its forms. Yoga sessions run in an indoor hall or an outdoor pavilion, for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
Dr Krishna also founded the Indus Valley Foundation, a non-profit initiative of the centre for rural and tribal youth who left conventional education. Its programme combines twelve months of training, six of them an internship, and prepares participants for work in the wellness industry.
