Hinata Retreat — Charlemont, United States
An adults-only couples retreat of private cabins in Charlemont, Massachusetts
The name comes from the Japanese word "Hinata," meaning "facing the sun." It is also a building code of sorts: all of the cabins and buildings at Hinata Retreat are designed to face east, so each day arrives with the sunrise. Guests are meant to wake slowly, make coffee on the private deck and watch the mountain change with the light.
The retreat was built by a couple, Jen and Jeff, who say they set out to create the place they were always looking for. Their own words for the idea: somewhere couples could exhale, "private enough to feel completely away, but cared for enough that the little things were already handled." The cabins are intentionally spaced so couples feel tucked away without feeling isolated.
Each cabin is designed for two adults and has a king bed, gas fireplace, private outdoor hot tub, indoor soaking tub, kitchenette, gas grill, outdoor fire pit and mountain-facing deck. Hinata is adults-only, with a two-night minimum stay and no Saturday arrivals or departures.
On the property, The Perch Restaurant, Bar & Lounge serves dinner seven days a week, with handcrafted cocktails, seasonal dishes and a fireplace lounge, a short walk from the cabins. The Hinata Market, open daily for cabin guests, stocks grab-and-go breakfast and lunch. Registered cabin guests can request a 60-minute couples massage in a private massage cabin with a side-by-side treatment room, and the pages say additional wellness spaces are coming.
Beyond the property, Berkshire East and Zoar Outdoor are minutes away for skiing, mountain biking, ziplining and white-water rafting. Shelburne Falls and the Mohawk Trail are also nearby. Brattleboro is 30 minutes away, Northampton 40, and Boston two hours.
