Silvia Nakkach is a Grammy-nominated musician, sound designer and vocalist trained in classical North Indian music. She describes herself as an interdisciplinary artist, working as a composer, vocalist and instrumentalist.
She is the founder and director of the Vox Mundi School of the Voice, and directs the Yoga of the Voice School in Japan and Brazil. She is a former faculty member of the California Institute of Integral Studies, where she also designed the Sound, Voice, and Music in the Healing Arts program. She is an internationally accredited specialist in cross-cultural applications of music in therapeutic processes and shamanic practices. She is the author of Free Your Voice and co-hosts the podcast Beyond Music.
Her work rests on a vision of music as a universal language and a vehicle for what she calls quantum listening. This practice aims to heighten and expand the consciousness of sound in as many dimensions of awareness as humanly possible, supporting psycho-spiritual and environmental transformation.
Her album Liminal, produced by Todd Boston, is an ambient work of voice and spacious soundscapes. Cellist David Darling, flugelhorn player Jeff Oster and Val Serrant on percussion and voice appear on it. Reviewers have heard elements of Indian ragas and Afro-Brazilian chants in its atmospheres. Nakkach describes approaching the music as "a gentle journey through fluid sound landscapes and ephemeral voices moving, transforming and dissolving like clouds in the sky," an invitation to a more open listening in which time is dilated. Common Ground Magazine's Lloyd Barde called her "a legendary singer and a Bay Area treasure."
