Description
The human voice is the first instrument, and the one you carry everywhere. Roots of Resonance: A Music Is Medicine Intensive invites you to rediscover it in Lisbon, in a three-day immersion led by Poranguí, where rhythm, voice, and Spirit meet in a shared circle of song.
This is the first gathering of its kind in Lisbon, bringing the core elements of Poranguí's retreats into an intimate in-person format at Tejá House, near the Tagus River. Through circlesong, embodied teachings, and authentic connection, you are invited to release self-judgment, braid your voice with others, and sing from a place that feels honest. Many people leave with renewed confidence, deeper connection, and a freer sense of joy in their expression.
No musical experience is necessary. If you are new to making music, you will find a playful, supportive container. If you are a developing or seasoned musician, you will find depth, inspiration, and room to grow.
What to Expect
Across three days, you will join a circle of fellow participants in a curriculum-rich experience centered on Circlesong and the teaching elements of the full retreat. Practices include voice work, body percussion, and spontaneous creation, moving into flow states meant to nourish both body and spirit. The atmosphere is safe and celebratory, with space to cultivate presence, play, and the art of meeting life's uncertainty through music and community.
If you are new to music-making, expect to:
- Discover ways to connect with your innate rhythm
- Open your voice and sing with the collective
- Feel safe trying new things in a playful, supportive setting
- Learn personal practices and techniques of expression
If you are an experienced musician, expect to:
- Be offered opportunities to lead Circlesongs
- Develop techniques for spontaneity and improvisation
- Build leadership skills in collective music making
- Listen deeply, get out of the way, and allow music to flow through you
The intensive is intentionally intimate, with limited space. Registration includes daily workshops facilitated by Poranguí, an organic, gluten-free, plant-based lunch each day, and filtered drinking water.
About Poranguí
Poranguí is a musician, healer, and producer whose work centers on the therapeutic use of sound, movement, and indigenous song traditions from across the Americas. Based in Sedona, Arizona, he creates ceremonial music that bridges ethnomusicology, somatic practice, and the healing traditions of the cultures that shaped him. He was raised across Brazil, Mexico, and the Southwestern United States, immersed in the musical and ceremonial life of multiple indigenous and mestizo communities, and he studied ethnomusicology at Duke University, where he examined the intersection of music, ritual, and healing across cultures.
Venue & Logistics
The intensive takes place at Tejá House, Cais do Sodré 5, 1200-450 Lisboa, Portugal. Programming runs daily from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with an optional group dinner at the close of the gathering (meal cost not included). Bring comfortable layers, since Lisbon weather and indoor temperatures can fluctuate, along with a refillable water bottle and any snacks you like. Most workshops are held indoors, with the option to gather outdoors if the weather allows.
Lodging and transportation to Tejá House are not included, though the organizers can connect participants for shared housing through a WhatsApp thread, which you can join by checking the box at checkout. By car, Tejá House is about 22 minutes from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport, about 10 minutes from Santa Apolónia Station, and about 25 minutes from Lisboa-Oriente Station. Tickets are transferable if your plans change.
