Unconditional Love and the Myth ofEros: Reclaiming Your True Self

In this conversation about the book Eros: A Return to Unconditional Love, don Miguel Ruiz and Barbara Emrys explore how human beings are incarnations of the divine principle of Eros—love itself—yet spend their lives learning conditional love from parents, society, religion, and culture. This learned love comes with demands ("I love you if…," "I love you because…") that cause us to sacrifice ourselves for acceptance and rejection avoidance. The book frames the human journey as Eros falling into false love and seeking redemption by remembering unconditional love as our core nature. The path back requires unlearning the acquired image of ourselves and recognizing that withholding love is withholding our own life force.

How Do We Learn Conditional Love Instead of Our True Nature?

At the heart of this teaching is a crucial distinction between what we actually are and what we've been taught we are. Ruiz explains that we arrive incarnated as love itself—as Eros in human form. Yet from our earliest moments, we receive what he calls "domestic issue" (domestication) from parents, family, school, religion, and society. We learn to love the same way everyone around us loves: with conditions attached.

This is not a judgment but an observation of a pattern. When a child watches their father express love with conditions, when they see their mother's love depend on achievement or behavior, when siblings reward and withdraw affection based on circumstance, the child internalizes this conditional model. Worse, we apply this conditional framework not just to how we love others, but to how we love ourselves. "The worst part is that we learn to love ourselves exactly the same way," Ruiz notes. We develop a painful inner dialogue that judges, demands, and withholds acceptance.

The tragedy deepens because we then seek romantic partners and relationships while operating from this conditional love template. We try to "catch" love, "keep" it, and "own" it—treating love as something external to ourselves, a prize to be won rather than a reality to be lived. When partners fail to meet our conditions, or when we fail to meet theirs, heartbreak and drama follow inevitably.

What Is the Myth of Eros and How Does It Relate to Our Lives?

Ruiz uses the classical myth of Eros—the god of love—as a metaphor for the human journey. In this reimagining, Eros is not merely a mythological figure but represents each of us. We are Eros incarnate. The fall of Eros, then, is the human fall into conditional love and false images of self. We construct an identity based on others' opinions, beliefs, and expectations. This constructed self is not the truth; it is merely an image that "may reflect the truth but it's not the truth."

Knowledge, Ruiz teaches, always reflects truth to different degrees of accuracy, but knowledge itself is not truth. When we think we know what love is—based on what we've been taught—we mistake our concept for the actual reality of love. "What you think you know about love isn't the truth of love, which is why love often seems to make us unhappy." This gap between our conditional love concepts and the unconditional reality of love is where suffering originates.

The redemption of Eros becomes the redemption of ourselves. The book's entire arc is about Eros recognizing the fall into conditional love and seeking to return to what it truly is. This is not a story of judgment or shame—it is, as Ruiz describes it, a "great tragic comedy." We change faces, we play roles, we sacrifice ourselves to feel safe and secure. But the journey is also one of awakening to what we've always been beneath the layers of belief systems we've accumulated.

Why Do We Reject Love When It Comes to Us?

The book addresses a paradox that many recognize in their own lives: we desperately want love, we seek it, we fantasize about it—yet when genuine love arrives, we often run from it. This is not a simple fear or neurosis; it is a direct result of having learned that love is dangerous, unachievable, or somehow wrong. We've been taught that "love is kind of unachievable or maybe not important or maybe even dangerous," and this teaching runs deep.

When real love shows up at our door, we're intimidated by its intensity. We shrink from it. We look the other way. We quit relationships. We blame the other person for loving us "too much" or for "being braver in love than we were." This self-sabotage isn't weakness; it's fidelity to the conditional love template we learned. True love—the unconditional kind—feels foreign, even threatening, because it doesn't match our learned concept of what love is supposed to be.

Barbara Emrys adds an important observation: babies come into the world with a "magnetic quality" that draws people to them. They don't have a story, opinions, or a constructed narrative. "They don't distinguish between themselves, their body, and the rest of the universe. They are life itself and that's love in action being expressed in everything they do." Babies are pure conduits for the life force. As we age and build narratives, we block this magnetic quality and begin to search for love as though it's something outside ourselves.

What Is the Relationship Between Self-Love and Loving Others?

The teaching makes clear that unconditional love for yourself is the foundation for sharing unconditional love with others. If you're constantly judging yourself, withholding acceptance from yourself, and applying the conditional templates you learned, you cannot authentically offer unconditional love to anyone else. The work begins with recognizing that you are love—not that you have love, not that you need to find it, but that your essential nature is love itself.

Ruiz asks a powerful question: "Why should we withhold love? That's withholding our own life force." To refuse to love, to close your heart, to protect yourself through conditional boundaries is not self-preservation—it is self-abandonment. When you accept that you are an incarnation of love, withholding becomes recognizable as the self-betrayal it actually is. Emrys frames the return to paradise as precisely this: unconditional love for yourself. "And with that, it's so easy to share it with the world unconditionally."

This is not naive positivity. It's a recognition that the energy we call love is the force of life itself. To block it, judge it, or condition it is to diminish the very life force flowing through us. Being a "conduit for that life force" creates a magnetic quality—not in a manipulative sense, but in the natural attraction of authenticity and presence.

How Do Belief Systems and Family Patterns Perpetuate Conditional Love?

Throughout the conversation, both teachers emphasize that the patterns we inherit are not personal failings but systemic. Parents love conditionally because they were taught to love conditionally. Grandparents before them, and generations before that. The belief system about love—that it is a commodity, a tool for control, something earned or lost—is embedded in the DNA of family and culture.

Ruiz speaks to the redemption not just of individuals but of humanity itself. "We know that we can redeem Eros not just in this generation but that we can pass the message of unconditional love." The change requires awareness first—seeing how the conditional model has operated in your own family, recognizing the patterns you've inherited and internalized. From there, the redemption begins: choosing to love without conditions, to accept yourself as you are, and to pass forward a different model to the next generation.

The book serves as both a personal mirror and a cultural intervention. It challenges us to question what we've been taught about love while offering a framework—grounded in myth and spirituality—to understand the human journey as fundamentally about returning home to unconditional love.

Where to Go From Here

If this teaching resonates, begin by observing your own patterns of conditional love. How do you love yourself? What conditions are attached? In your intimate relationships, romantic or familial, where do you find yourself demanding, withdrawing, or withholding? The awareness itself is the first step toward redemption. From there, you might explore the full book Eros: A Return to Unconditional Love by don Miguel Ruiz and Barbara Emrys, which offers deeper exploration of these themes through story, mythology, and practical inquiry. The goal is not perfection but a gradual return—a remembering—of what you've always been beneath the learned patterns.

[0:07] I'm the thing. thank you. Nice

[0:11] to see you guys. I love seeing

[0:12] you guys. Love to see you

[0:16] Likewise. and I'm excited to

[0:18] talk to you today about your

[0:19] new book, Eros. Yeah. And I

[0:23] have to say, I love this book.

[0:26] I love it. It's It's so much

[0:29] fun to read and you know, last

[0:31] night, I was I was highlighting

[0:32] pages to sort of pick some

[0:35] passages and I have to say

[0:36] there's like 40 pages

[0:38] highlighted in here. So, it was

[0:39] kind of it was it was tough to

[0:41] actually narrow it down and

[0:43] find some things I wanna talk

[0:44] to you about but so I'm excited

[0:47] to talk to you about that and

[0:49] for those joining us live and

[0:51] who will watch this later, my

[0:52] name is Aaron and I'm here with

[0:54] Tammy Arias and Barbara Emrys

[0:55] who are author of this

[0:58] brand-new book called Arrows

[0:59] that you can find wherever you

[1:01] buy and what is the subtitle?

[1:04] The subtitle says, arrows. I

[1:08] returned to unconditional love

[1:11] and and I love the image too

[1:14] cuz you know, it's like the

[1:15] image of turning arrows into

[1:19] roses or stopping the arrows

[1:22] but anyway, so what I was

[1:24] thinking, I can read a couple

[1:25] of passages. You guys can

[1:26] expand on that and then I

[1:29] invite anyone who's watching

[1:30] this live to leave some

[1:31] comments or any questions you

[1:33] have about this book if you've

[1:34] read it and if there's some

[1:37] time at the end, you can ask us

[1:38] questions and and you guys come

[1:40] in of them. So, that being

[1:45] said, I was thinking we could

[1:46] start. I found a passage on

[1:48] page 82. For those of you who

[1:50] actually have a book, you guys

[1:52] don't need to look it up.

[1:57] and It says

[2:03] Well, I think it's on page

[2:05] eighty two. and the passage

[2:07] says, you've created an image

[2:09] of yourself that you believe in

[2:11] and you display it to the

[2:12] world. This image may reflect

[2:14] that truth but it's not the

[2:17] truth. All knowledge reflects

[2:19] the truth. A different degrees

[2:20] of accuracy but knowledge is

[2:23] not the truth. What you think

[2:25] you know about love isn't the

[2:27] truth of love which is why love

[2:29] often seems to make us unhappy.

[2:35] That's that's a Miguel. Okay.

[2:42] It's important to understand

[2:43] that image of ourselves and

[2:46] it's the result of everybody's

[2:49] opinions. It's the result of

[2:51] the domestic issue that we have

[2:53] received from our parents. A

[2:55] little society at school,

[2:57] religion, etcetera, etcetera.

[3:02] We can see that we learn to

[3:05] love the same way that

[3:07] everybody else's love which

[3:10] means of course with conditions

[3:14] but we forget that we are love

[3:20] We incarnate in our physical

[3:23] body. then, we are an

[3:25] incarnation of love. If we're

[3:29] going to mythology, we talk

[3:32] about errors. We can see that

[3:34] we are the incarnation of

[3:36] arrows, Eros is the main

[3:40] character of the story which is

[3:43] ourself and we fall in love

[3:48] when we learn to love the same

[3:50] way that everybody else's love

[3:54] with me. with conditions I love

[3:59] you. If

[4:02] and

[4:02] that's the way we learn to

[4:04] love because everybody around

[4:05] us not in that way.

[4:12] and the worst part is that we

[4:13] learn to love ourselves.

[4:14] exactly the same way and we

[4:17] really believe all those

[4:19] concepts of love That's why we

[4:23] are afraid to love but we wish

[4:26] to love that we take the risk

[4:28] and we pay the consequences

[4:31] because with whoever we are,

[4:34] they love us with conditions.

[4:37] They love us if and because of

[4:41] in the name of love, we

[4:43] sacrifice ourselves. We hurt

[4:46] ourselves just to be accepted

[4:48] and not to be rejected. Then

[4:51] this is the fall of

[5:34] errors, Errors fall into the

[5:34] false love Eros want to come

[5:35] back. Want to redeem itself.

[5:36] and find what Eros really is.

[5:37] Of course, when I talk about

[5:38] errors, I'm talk about you. You

[5:38] are arrows internet and your

[5:39] physical body You are the one

[5:40] who fall deep into the

[5:41] conditional love in that. The

[5:42] one who want to redeem yourself

[5:43] the best you can and the whole

[5:44] book is about that really the

[5:44] most beautiful and romantic

[5:45] story where arrows find himself

[5:46] in because what it really is

[5:47] unconditional love There's so

[5:50] many times in the book where

[5:53] you guys talk about, you know,

[5:55] seeing the way that your father

[5:57] loves you and the way your

[5:58] mother loves you and the way

[5:59] your sister's expressed love

[6:01] and the way you see love

[6:03] portrayed on on TV and the way

[6:04] love is portrayed and it's so

[6:07] easy as children to mimic the

[6:09] love that we see and it's it's

[6:12] not real love. It's a

[6:15] distortion of love but we learn

[6:15] to love that way and of course

[6:18] it makes sense why we find

[6:19] ourselves in all these

[6:20] relationships that create so

[6:20] much drama and heartbreak

[6:23] because we're trying to love

[6:24] the way other people love and I

[6:27] found that such a beautiful

[6:28] thread at the whole book You

[6:32] know, I said a great tragic

[6:35] comedy. the whole journey to go

[6:39] back to our self. As we see the

[6:44] actor, we change faces. we

[6:46] change. so many things and in

[6:48] order to feel safe and secure,

[6:53] Then if we see our own path and

[6:56] remember all what we did that

[7:00] tragic things that we suffer

[7:02] because that kind of comedy and

[7:04] we laugh about ourselves what

[7:06] we did the way we used to be.

[7:08] it that is a is a great story

[7:11] really in the world world we

[7:13] live try to redeem ourselves

[7:16] and redeemed the belief systems

[7:22] the real one which is the cover

[7:24] of the DNA. and the one that

[7:28] comes from society which is

[7:29] that conditional will make us

[7:32] fall in the Bos that we want to

[7:36] save ourself and become what we

[7:38] really have. Once again,

[7:42] You know, I think what we can

[7:44] appreciate just observing life

[7:46] around us is that babies come

[7:48] into the world with a magnetic

[7:51] quality. We're all attracted to

[7:52] them to their to their joy, to

[7:55] their love. They don't have a

[7:56] story. They don't have opinions

[7:58] they haven't figured out, you

[7:59] know, their narrative or their

[8:02] role in life. They don't

[8:05] distinguish between themselves,

[8:08] their body, and the rest of the

[8:10] universe. They are life itself

[8:13] and that's love in action being

[8:16] expressed in everything they

[8:17] do. What happens as we begin to

[8:21] build a narrative and build a

[8:22] sense of ourselves and

[8:25] knowledge takes over is that we

[8:26] think of love as a part from us

[8:28] somewhere out there, something

[8:30] to be gained, something to be

[8:32] one, something to be kind of. I

[8:35] don't know to develop a

[8:38] strategy about how am I gonna

[8:39] catch it, keep it, own it, and

[8:42] we lose that sense of we are

[8:44] love. getting back to paradise.

[8:47] You could say is that

[8:52] unconditional love for

[8:53] yourself. and with that, it's

[8:57] so easy to to share it with

[8:59] with the world unconditionally.

[9:01] Why should we withhold love?

[9:03] that's withholding our own life

[9:05] force and what is it gain us?

[9:09] We need to be a conduit for

[9:10] that life force and that makes

[9:14] a magnetic force to others.

[9:19] Again. Again, which is what how

[9:21] we started. Yup. And it's you

[9:24] know, and I know some of the

[9:26] passages I might have chosen

[9:27] are a little off the deep end,

[9:29] right? Right off the bat but

[9:31] it's also sort the things that

[9:34] I don't know. I guess I'm I'm

[9:35] attracted to. So, the next

[9:37] passage is really about it says

[9:38] from Page I know that

[9:41] unconditional love can seem

[9:43] intimidating, even unachievable

[9:45] for the most part, we're so far

[9:48] removed from Love's intensity

[9:49] which is why we're just talking

[9:50] about that we shrink from We

[9:52] look the other way. We run, we

[9:54] quit. We blame someone else for

[9:56] loving us too much or for being

[9:58] braver and love than we were

[9:59] So, we often fail at important

[10:02] relationships and drive people

[10:03] away or we're unable to hold on

[10:05] to people who have real love to

[10:07] give us It's a beautiful piece.

[10:11] You don't have it and there's

[10:13] not much to say about it except

[10:14] that it's true Like sometimes

[10:16] we want love. We desire love.

[10:18] We want that relationship but

[10:20] as soon as it comes knocking at

[10:21] our door, we're afraid of it.

[10:23] If we want the truth of us and

[10:25] we tend to look in all sorts of

[10:28] strange places because we were

[10:30] taught once again that love is

[10:33] kind of unachievable or maybe

[10:34] not important or maybe even

[10:36] dangerous and I think that the

[10:37] book makes that point and you

[10:39] say you Some passages go off

[10:43] the deep end but I think we're

[10:44] already in deep water when we

[10:47] challenge people's view of

[10:49] love, I think that's where we

[10:51] start. We start in deep water

[10:53] and and you know, it's that

[10:56] view is so supported and given

[11:01] constant confirmation by

[11:03] society by as you say, you

[11:06] know, what we see in movies and

[11:08] books and TV and also I'm just

[11:11] the the models we were shown as

[11:15] children, Our parents may have

[11:17] loved it. each other and us

[11:20] well or they may have been

[11:23] afraid to show too much love.

[11:24] You know, or they may have been

[11:27] confused about love. However,

[11:29] we grew up, we kinda took on

[11:30] those those expressions and

[11:34] those beliefs about love and so

[11:36] this is just an opportunity to

[11:38] sort of question all of that.

[11:39] There's an entire day spent in

[11:41] this series of classes that the

[11:43] book represents on doubt and

[11:44] how doubting what you think you

[11:47] know about love and about

[11:49] yourself is such a useful tool,

[11:53] a learning tool, you know,

[11:54] doubt a little and then see

[11:56] what comes rushing in life

[11:57] usually comes rushing in

[12:01] Well,

[12:03] if you'll see that it is

[12:04] mystery school,

[12:08] Love is the great mystery. that

[12:11] we try to understand that love

[12:15] Mm hmm. But we was involved in

[12:17] so many different opinions. So

[12:19] many attitudes, so many points

[12:21] of view about what love is and

[12:24] in the middle of all that and

[12:26] each one of us will react in a

[12:28] completely different way. Some

[12:31] people will be so afraid to

[12:34] show their feelings. Some

[12:36] people will defend itself

[12:38] against love. Some We just love

[12:41] as a tool to hurt others or to

[12:45] hurt himself. It's some people

[12:48] will see love like a very far

[12:50] from them that they don't have

[12:53] that love that they have to

[12:54] look for love wherever love is

[12:58] If we can see. that. to the

[13:05] cameras, a sacrifice I I called

[13:09] it a human sacrifice. you'll

[13:13] sacrifice yourself to be

[13:14] accepted. Do not be rejected.

[13:18] to sacrifice yourself to please

[13:22] the person of the people that

[13:24] you want to be accepted and you

[13:26] can do almost whatever for that

[13:29] acceptance On the other hand,

[13:32] we sacrifice others in the name

[13:35] of love. because we try to

[13:40] control what love is and what

[13:45] people feel about love. We have

[13:48] all that opinion. That's why I

[13:50] love you. If you let me control

[13:54] you, or I surrender to you,

[13:58] just control it to whatever you

[13:59] want to be hurt me, beat me,

[14:02] whatever but don't leave me

[14:07] That's you. Sacrifice yourself

[14:09] in the name of love. and the

[14:10] other person is empowering

[14:13] because the other one surrender

[14:16] completely and that becomes

[14:18] abuse of that power. It's

[14:20] abusing love to sacrifice the

[14:24] person that you love or you may

[14:26] love and that is not just your

[14:30] partner could be your child

[14:32] could be your sister, your

[14:34] brother could be included, your

[14:36] own parents, especially when

[14:38] they get old If you want to

[14:42] control the way they have to

[14:44] behave in in life, you want to

[14:48] control the neighbor, you want

[14:50] to control the neighborhood or

[14:52] you're afraid to be controlled,

[14:55] you're afraid of the people

[14:56] with authority to use that

[14:58] authority to to hurt you, to

[15:01] submit you and you use that

[15:04] power in order to hurt other

[15:07] people with without knowing

[15:08] that we are in love. so many

[15:12] different ways to see how low

[15:15] it becomes. The biggest demon

[15:19] in our society, the biggest

[15:22] demon outside of us and inside

[15:24] of us. because we sacrifice

[15:27] ourselves even if nobody

[15:30] notices even if nobody knows,

[15:32] we can suffer in silence

[15:34] because we we started out that

[15:39] reminded me that the teachings

[15:41] and the first book of love that

[15:44] we wrote Maybe it's the last

[15:48] century. I think it's the last

[15:50] century. It's that magical

[15:52] kitchen with someone come with

[15:54] pizza and give it to your

[15:57] little piece. If you just do

[15:59] whatever that person want you

[16:01] to do. Is that a starving for

[16:05] love? You will accept it. but

[16:07] you are love. You have to have

[16:10] that. You have love for

[16:12] yourself but for the entire

[16:13] universe, for the entire world,

[16:15] for everyone. It is without

[16:18] conditions. That reminded me

[16:20] that little piece of the book

[16:23] that we write a long time ago

[16:27] There's actually a similar

[16:28] story in this book which I

[16:29] found amazing which is, you

[16:31] know, what I love about the

[16:32] book also is it's sort of like

[16:34] this Step-by-step understanding

[16:38] what what love is and what love

[16:40] isn't and it's a beautiful sort

[16:44] of woven tapestry of

[16:47] understanding the essence of

[16:49] love and that love is

[16:50] everything. It's the force that

[16:52] that covers everything, governs

[16:54] everything and it's the way you

[16:55] describe it is absolutely so

[16:57] beautiful and I think at the

[16:58] end, talk about, you know, if

[17:01] you had a house full of food

[17:02] and you had never ending food

[17:04] and someone comes knocking at

[17:05] your door, offering you food in

[17:08] exchange for a piece of you,

[17:09] you you would say, I don't eat

[17:11] it. I have I have enough but if

[17:14] you if you are hungry and

[17:16] someone came knocking on our

[17:17] door and offered you food in

[17:19] exchange for something, all of

[17:21] a sudden, you would be in debt

[17:23] to somebody and it's really

[17:26] like a metaphor for ourselves.

[17:28] We feel in debt because we

[17:29] don't ourselves and we're

[17:32] searching for someone to love

[17:34] us because we can't do it

[17:35] ourselves and it's a never

[17:36] ending spiral. We think we're

[17:38] starving for what we are and

[17:41] that's the, you know, that's

[17:43] the mind shift that has to take

[17:45] place. You're the conveyor, you

[17:48] know, the supply, the source of

[17:50] love and you think you're

[17:52] starving for it. You want it

[17:54] from some other place in some

[17:56] other way and then of course it

[17:58] leaves you disappointed because

[18:00] people are making deals with

[18:02] you People are saying give me

[18:04] this back in exchange for what

[18:08] I'm, you know, trying to give

[18:11] you or appear to give you but

[18:13] you can only give yourself and

[18:16] it's like I've been nothing.

[18:21] was whatever it is just to feel

[18:23] that you may become something.

[18:25] Mm and you're that way.

[18:27] Everybody agrees with you as

[18:29] well. You're not you don't

[18:31] deserve it. You don't deserve

[18:32] love Not even on love.

[18:38] When someone come and say,

[18:39] okay, for sure. or something.

[18:43] As you can see that perhaps

[18:46] worth it to love and to be

[18:48] loved. they start changing

[18:51] because now you may start

[18:53] loving yourself in a different

[18:55] way. I'm going to say come and

[18:59] say, okay, there's something

[19:01] else is a complete acceptance.

[19:06] of what you really are. but

[19:08] it's all the process you are

[19:11] unlearning You You unlearn the

[19:14] way they teach you how to love

[19:16] you, Unlearn the unconditional

[19:18] love to find out that you have

[19:21] everything already with

[19:23] yourself in that way. The

[19:26] second program, the program

[19:29] that was imposed to you by

[19:30] doctor in Nigeria to make you

[19:34] needy to make to make you feel

[19:36] that it's not possible that you

[19:39] never can do it. Then you'll

[19:41] find out that it's not true. Mm

[19:44] hmm. But what is true is that

[19:46] you are that love you recover

[19:49] that trust in yourself, that

[19:50] confidence in yourself and just

[19:53] start seeing everything in a

[19:57] completely different way Then,

[19:58] when you become something, just

[20:01] try to control others because

[20:02] now you have the power but you

[20:05] something else. then you are

[20:08] free of all that confusion and

[20:11] you're no longer care to be

[20:13] right. You no longer care to

[20:15] impose your will or to make

[20:17] everybody to do what you want

[20:19] them to do because it's not

[20:21] important. finding out that

[20:24] really is important is that

[20:26] information that you have in

[20:28] yourself which means the first

[20:31] program, the real program

[20:36] that make a great great

[20:38] solution. for all of us. So, he

[20:43] just brought up the

[20:44] programming. Mm hmm. Should we

[20:45] get into that? Yeah. I was

[20:47] gonna. Do you wanna talk about

[20:48] that? Cuz I was gonna say you

[20:50] mentioned in the book about two

[20:52] programs in one program you

[20:55] talk about is the the DNA in

[20:58] our body. It's the program.

[21:00] It's itself. Life's blueprint

[21:03] right For us and it controls

[21:04] you know, how we become

[21:07] physical beings and supports

[21:08] that physical being as long as

[21:12] it's alive and breathing and

[21:15] then after that physical being

[21:18] is born. another program begins

[21:20] to take charge which is the

[21:22] society's program which is

[21:24] basically knowledge coming in

[21:27] and telling you what it means

[21:29] to be a human being or how

[21:32] human human beings should act

[21:33] and react to each other and how

[21:36] human beings should feel about

[21:37] each other and how human beings

[21:39] should describe love among, you

[21:42] know, infinite other things.

[21:43] So, I think the best thing that

[21:48] this book accomplishes is

[21:50] giving you a sense of yes, I

[21:52] can marry the two programs.

[21:55] They can actually be at peace

[21:57] with each other. Life's

[21:59] programming and your own

[22:01] programming which is now you're

[22:03] in charge of your parents, your

[22:04] teachers, you know, your

[22:07] spouses. They're not there to

[22:09] program you. You're here to

[22:11] take charge of your own mental

[22:13] program. your responses to what

[22:17] it is you perceive what it is,

[22:19] your body, your senses,

[22:21] perceive all around you and to

[22:23] get that more in keeping with

[22:25] the original program which

[22:27] means you're more in harmony

[22:30] with life itself, not

[22:32] constantly fighting it and

[22:34] saying, no, I can define this

[22:35] better. I know what life is

[22:37] about. This is not a mystery

[22:39] and and constantly confusing

[22:41] yourself taking yourself so far

[22:43] away from your original

[22:46] essence. that you actually

[22:48] think love maybe something that

[22:51] can hurt you and maybe you can

[22:53] use to hurt others That is not

[22:55] something I think anybody

[22:57] reading the book or listening

[22:58] to our conversation right right

[23:00] now wants to perpetuate for the

[23:02] rest of his or her life. Then

[23:06] you can see that with that

[23:08] first program, is rigid is the

[23:13] way it is. That program will

[23:19] control. the human body. not

[23:23] just with the awareness that we

[23:28] have about the human body but

[23:30] everything that we don't know

[23:32] about the body is being

[23:34] controlled by the first

[23:36] program. Then, the first

[23:38] program is is going into the

[23:44] into the development of every

[23:46] organ especially with the nerve

[23:48] system they're in

[23:52] the DNA will force the

[23:56] different organs to release

[24:00] certain substances that we know

[24:01] as a hormones and that change

[24:04] complete everything and it

[24:06] doesn't care what we believe or

[24:08] not. It doesn't care about the

[24:11] second program. It doesn't even

[24:13] bother about the second

[24:14] program. It's just the way it

[24:17] is. If you keep all the changes

[24:20] that happen in our physical

[24:21] body and analysts and you've

[24:25] been childhood together to

[24:28] listen to be a young human, to

[24:29] a reproduction, to grow old,

[24:32] and to be to grow very old

[24:36] until finally leave the basic

[24:38] body but the whole thing is

[24:41] really in the second program

[24:43] there, the whole what we

[24:46] struggle is in the second

[24:48] program is the full of errors

[24:51] Es is working in the second

[24:54] program in order to let go of

[24:58] that that learn from knowledge

[25:01] to use it. the power of thought

[25:02] to see if it's true or it's not

[25:05] true. Whatever we learn right?

[25:07] In that way, we are stepping

[25:09] out step by step and believe

[25:13] less and less that second

[25:14] program until the moment comes

[25:17] that we know that the second is

[25:22] just an illusion is not that

[25:24] real but it's based in reality.

[25:28] but interpretation that we made

[25:31] are not real at all. then we

[25:35] can we can see so beautifully

[25:37] Like I said before, this tray

[25:40] comedy, how Eros is going from

[25:43] the deepest. I'm not to the

[25:48] strong and something to

[25:50] Finally. becomes something else

[25:54] when it becomes something else.

[25:57] That second program hardly

[25:59] help. any power over the main

[26:03] character which is Then when

[26:08] this with all that knowledge,

[26:12] can not can I have that power

[26:16] over errors, errors, to

[26:19] recover. It's divinity by

[26:22] stepping aside and just live

[26:24] life to do what I have to do.

[26:29] arrows. Meaning all of us. Yes,

[26:32] it's been a year. It's been in

[26:33] me even my dog. Well, is that

[26:39] true? But anyway, I don't have

[26:42] a dog that's not worry about

[26:44] the evolution of your dog's I

[26:48] guess the I guess at a certain

[26:50] point, there's a beautiful

[26:51] relationship between the two

[26:53] programs. you know, for most of

[26:55] our life, those two programs.

[26:55] Wouldn't that be a good thing

[26:57] to strive for? you know, mind

[26:59] being in tune with body and

[27:02] maybe giving it some not only

[27:05] attention and respect but

[27:07] service It's a great analogy. I

[27:11] I remember from the book where

[27:12] you talk about, you know, like

[27:15] if there's a bully or school

[27:16] and you're you're being bullied

[27:18] every time you walk around the

[27:19] corner of the hallway, you

[27:21] anticipate coming in contact

[27:23] with that bully and I and I

[27:24] love the analogy between your

[27:26] body and your mind that your

[27:27] body is anticipating what you

[27:31] are gonna narratives. Yeah. The

[27:33] narratives that you're gonna

[27:35] say that that are abusing the

[27:36] body with with the with

[27:39] judgment, with whatever it is

[27:42] and to clean that relationship

[27:44] would be, you know, that is

[27:48] love. That is that beautiful

[27:50] relationship between mind and

[27:52] body. that is that relationship

[27:56] reflects outward to all your

[27:57] relationships. So, this is

[27:59] where it needs to begin. You

[28:03] know, we can see that bully

[28:04] talking to the body. Imagine.

[28:08] Well, I am human in the baby

[28:14] thirteen, fourteen 15 year old

[28:17] that is Timmy is shy. Mm hmm.

[28:21] And have certain obesity and

[28:24] have all those judgments that

[28:27] learn from childhood It is

[28:30] applying it with he or she look

[28:34] in the mirror. and say, look at

[28:38] this. It tastes like not like

[28:42] the physical body and suffering

[28:44] because their body is not the

[28:47] way they want it to be. and

[28:50] they will criticize their body.

[28:52] Oh, that's fat. You're the

[28:54] spirit. you're whatever else we

[28:58] just don't like it then we is

[29:01] it because we love our body

[29:03] with conditions because we

[29:05] learn to love with conditions,

[29:07] Eros is really down in that

[29:10] moment. Is it it needs someone

[29:15] to blame and he's blaming our

[29:17] physical body. The body that is

[29:20] always completely loyal to

[29:22] Eros, completely loyal but he's

[29:25] so mad, so angry. so jealous

[29:28] that it's even start hating his

[29:32] own physical body and that can

[29:35] be so big, so strong that many

[29:37] people just kill themselves

[29:40] because they think that that

[29:42] will that will release from all

[29:46] those judgments that they have

[29:48] about themselves and they

[29:50] sacrificed in some physical

[29:52] body in the name of love

[29:55] because they say, I don't

[29:56] deserve love. Who's gonna love

[29:58] me but it looks like that when

[30:01] I speak like that but you know,

[30:03] all those strong judgments that

[30:05] we use against ourselves

[30:07] there's no compassion. We

[30:10] really hate our body or we just

[30:13] don't like our body and it's

[30:15] because we just don't know how

[30:18] wonderful and beautiful is our

[30:18] body is a what? shape you don't

[30:24] know? then? It's wonderful when

[30:29] we finally have the awareness

[30:31] of what is true that we no

[30:33] longer believe all those

[30:36] opinions that come from the

[30:37] outside to show you the

[30:40] magazines, the way your body

[30:42] should look in order to be

[30:45] accepted by everybody else. If

[30:47] you compare yourself and say,

[30:49] oh no, I'm not like that. I

[30:50] never will be and and we just

[30:56] have this all drama. in our own

[31:01] head. is very interesting to

[31:05] see how Eros can deal with that

[31:08] and just start put it in doubt,

[31:11] whatever they say in order to

[31:16] use the truth just to the right

[31:19] to be himself or herself You

[31:24] know, it could be a liberation

[31:27] that of freedom that comes step

[31:29] by step. It will, it will

[31:32] depends how deep we fall into

[31:35] that conditional love. because

[31:37] the constitutional law is

[31:39] exactly the opposite of love is

[31:42] like a big ocean filled with

[31:44] monsters That monster, there's

[31:47] nothing but opinions. There's

[31:50] nothing but judgments. that is

[31:53] devoting us. It's hurting us

[31:56] but we can say it hurt him.

[31:59] itself. It all those beliefs

[32:02] with all those lies because

[32:04] more than 90percent of our

[32:07] beliefs are lies. It can be

[32:11] really deep life and especially

[32:14] when other people support that

[32:16] judgment that we have

[32:21] It's just like we believe we

[32:24] are not it. from being nothing

[32:26] to be something is a big step

[32:29] in the the redemption of

[32:31] arrows. and finally, you see,

[32:35] okay, I'm not look at that When

[32:37] I smile, I look good in the

[32:40] mirror. If you can start

[32:44] finding something wonderful in

[32:47] your own physical body, you

[32:50] just start appreciating even

[32:51] more to your physical body

[32:53] until the moment that you'll

[32:55] find out that this physical

[32:57] body is really the love of your

[33:01] life. That's when Eros becomes

[33:07] something else. then we can see

[33:11] the devolution. how we get out

[33:14] of all the misery that we

[33:17] decide to live because we

[33:20] decide to live that way with a

[33:23] little help of our friends.

[33:26] Please, our family, our

[33:29] neighbors, school, religion

[33:33] because a relationship, we are

[33:35] sinners. So, definitely well,

[33:37] anyway, we are talking,

[33:40] talking, we could keep going

[33:41] with what society tells us. I

[33:44] think the most transfixed

[33:48] phrase you've ever said in all

[33:50] these years is the that the

[33:53] opposite of love is love. and

[33:57] if people aren't intrigued

[33:59] enough to find out what that

[34:01] means, this is what we're going

[34:03] to keep doing over and over

[34:05] again. We're gonna keep

[34:06] representing ourselves as you

[34:09] know, sort of the instructions

[34:13] to love and we're we're gonna

[34:15] start, you know, keep being

[34:17] confused about how to express

[34:19] our love, how to mend, you

[34:21] know, broken hearts, broken

[34:23] relationships, how to go on

[34:26] with life knowing that you can

[34:28] disagree. you can change

[34:30] dreams. You can end dreams but

[34:32] love doesn't end You know, it's

[34:36] yeah, it's the it's the big

[34:38] piece that all the the

[34:40] religious Talk about the best

[34:44] that is waiting for the little

[34:45] boy to be born in order to

[34:47] swallow it. Well, this is the

[34:50] conditional love. That's that's

[34:52] the it's what we think we know

[34:54] about, huh? Yeah. And and we

[34:57] gobble gobble, huh? And we can

[35:00] go so deep that it looks almost

[35:02] impossible. impossible to get

[35:04] out of that hell because easy

[35:07] as hell.

[35:11] is hell in the different levels

[35:12] of hell. I don't know. Nine or

[35:16] eleven. of hell.

[35:22] with the

[35:23] we started getting out

[35:24] step by step. step by step.

[35:27] Some people don't go that deep.

[35:29] very little but you know, it's

[35:31] like when we talk about our

[35:34] stories, we should ask what

[35:36] level of hell are you right

[35:37] now?

[35:41] how much you love yourself.

[35:44] That's another way to say it.

[35:45] Do you really hate yourself?

[35:48] You just don't like yourself.

[35:51] You are more than a half and

[35:54] half You kind of like yourself

[35:57] a little and see it. It's it's

[36:01] different levels of hell I can

[36:03] say or different levels of

[36:05] conditional love which is

[36:07] exactly the same thing because

[36:08] the opposite of love, right?

[36:11] These conditions become so

[36:13] extreme and so frequent that

[36:15] are so automatic that love is

[36:18] lost. There's you know, it just

[36:20] feels like it's unachievable

[36:23] then when they say saying, is

[36:27] they have to see what kind of

[36:28] love what they're talking

[36:29] about. Yeah. Yeah. You What's

[36:32] that? we do. We That's that's

[36:40] great to taste it. before I

[36:44] wrap it up and ask a couple of

[36:46] questions. I was gonna say if

[36:46] you, you know, you guys talk

[36:48] about minimal chance that I

[36:51] love that little part where

[36:53] like you have the rest of your

[36:54] life to focus on this. You have

[36:55] all the time in the world but

[36:58] why waste a single second? No

[37:01] time to waste, you know, So,

[37:03] the minimal chances, the power

[37:05] of doubt. That's the minimum of

[37:09] chances we have in order to

[37:11] face our own lies and we can

[37:15] start with the little lies to

[37:17] go deeper and deeper into the

[37:19] biggest lies and that's minimal

[37:22] chance The power of god is that

[37:24] true Is that true that I'm so

[37:27] ugly? It starts with that. I am

[37:31] so bad. It's true that I'm so

[37:34] arrogant. Is that that I

[37:37] whatever. Mm hmm. It's the I'm

[37:42] so unlovable. Yeah, we throw

[37:46] that on ourselves all the time.

[37:49] and of course, the greatest

[37:50] teacher, spiritual teacher in

[37:52] the world will give you a

[37:54] minimal chance. They can do no

[37:55] more than that and you have to

[37:57] pursue your own your own

[38:00] paradise from there. It's

[38:03] beautiful. The power of doubt,

[38:06] right?

[38:09] Oh,

[38:09] thank you guys. Okay. It's

[38:11] a great conversation and I hope

[38:15] that was helpful and inspiring

[38:16] to everyone watching this and

[38:20] before we say goodbye, I see

[38:23] one question the question. The

[38:27] second question, it says, it's

[38:29] from Elena. She says, is Eros

[38:33] related Isn't arrows related

[38:35] with the love between a man and

[38:37] a woman?

[38:40] Well, sexual energy which is

[38:43] life's energy. You could say

[38:45] that and this is the the the

[38:47] pure definition of the simple

[38:50] errors that fell into kind of

[38:51] being a symbol instead of being

[38:54] the embodiment of love and that

[38:55] life energy and that's what we

[38:58] all did. We were that

[39:00] embodiment of life energy

[39:03] whether you call it creative or

[39:05] sexual or just pure love but we

[39:09] were that embodiment and then

[39:11] gradually, we learn to become

[39:14] the symbol of it and the symbol

[39:14] of course is distorted. It's

[39:18] corrupted. It's been the cause

[39:22] of our own emotional pain and

[39:24] frustration. getting back to

[39:26] being the embodiment of life.

[39:29] You could say wrap up and

[39:31] matter and bone and blood and

[39:34] the embodiment of life is not

[39:35] an impossible thing. You just,

[39:38] you know, little by little stop

[39:40] investing so much in what you

[39:43] think you know, and the day of

[39:47] the series of classes on arrows

[39:50] represented in this book is

[39:51] about that surrender Maybe the

[39:54] last page of every book, Miguel

[39:58] writes is about surrender

[40:00] because that's ultimately what

[40:01] we do and what are we

[40:02] surrendering? We're

[40:03] surrendering our stories and

[40:06] letting life inform us more and

[40:09] more and more as life is always

[40:12] done and life will always do

[40:13] and the mystery school. In a

[40:19] nutshell in a nutshell and the

[40:22] last question, which I think

[40:24] you've already answered. It's

[40:26] by Elizabeth and says, my

[40:28] question today is how to best

[40:29] deal with systems that exist

[40:31] that were not constructed with

[40:33] love and it sounds like you

[40:37] question them. It sounds like

[40:39] what you were sharing before, I

[40:40] believe. don't believe them but

[40:41] you know, we're we're in a

[40:47] consensual reality. The human

[40:49] dream that presents us with

[40:51] these frustrations all the

[40:54] time. You know, how can we

[40:57] create anything that's not

[40:57] based in love and what we do is

[41:01] we find, you know, our own

[41:03] truth find the authenticity in

[41:07] ourself and that contributes is

[41:08] it, you know, little by little

[41:10] to the authenticity of the

[41:12] human dream and I'm sure Miguel

[41:14] has more to say on that. Yes, I

[41:16] think it's absolutely beautiful

[41:19] That question because we talk

[41:24] about the TP of human which is

[41:26] you and this

[41:30] but it's really also to the

[41:32] entire humanity as one living

[41:35] being because the entire

[41:38] humanity is really the

[41:41] incarnation of errors. It is 7

[41:44] billion people or more. I don't

[41:46] even know and I really don't

[41:47] care how many we are but we are

[41:50] billions and we are only one

[41:53] living being and we are part of

[41:55] that living being just like

[41:58] every cell of your body is part

[41:59] of your body. and every cell

[42:01] can live a part of your body

[42:03] for for a while. But the of all

[42:09] cells is your physical body.

[42:10] Well, the totality of humanity

[42:13] is all the humans together. We

[42:17] are programmed to dream. We are

[42:21] programmed to create stories.

[42:22] We are programmed to fall into

[42:27] conditional love. We are

[42:30] programmed to all of that is

[42:32] not the choice of the

[42:34] individual It's not the choice

[42:37] of just a few people who rules

[42:41] the planet. He's talking about

[42:45] the totality and then the

[42:47] totality. we see that we love

[42:50] with conditions, conditional

[42:53] love controls humanity which

[42:57] means knowledge controls

[43:00] humanity and when we understand

[43:03] that point, we will understand

[43:07] all the injustice that exist,

[43:09] all the violence Josh brands

[43:13] that we understand war. We

[43:16] understand how they need to

[43:19] control all nations because we

[43:22] have the power. If we because

[43:25] we can't control them and how

[43:28] this little nations have to

[43:30] submit and surrender to the the

[43:34] the nations who have more power

[43:35] when it tries to have more

[43:37] power than is not just all they

[43:40] want in one nation, we see the

[43:42] same thing as the here. and the

[43:46] entire world. It's happened in

[43:48] our own city. It's happening in

[43:50] our own state. It's happening

[43:53] in our own family.

[43:58] that Eros is in everyone and

[44:00] it's all of us together. about

[44:05] to change the entire humanity.

[44:08] It takes hundreds, maybe

[44:11] thousands of years but going

[44:15] into the right direction.

[44:17] because if you compare to

[44:20] present time,

[44:24] Then a thousand years ago, the

[44:27] way we live, the way we treat

[44:28] each other is completely

[44:31] different. We evolve. We go

[44:34] from deep intel to a little

[44:37] higher in hell or higher in

[44:41] unconditional love. and as

[44:44] science and technology evolves,

[44:47] we see that that goes into

[44:50] every single human around the

[44:51] world and see the evolution of

[44:54] technology and the evolution of

[44:55] science. In the last three

[44:57] years is amazing. Then, the the

[45:02] last 10 years of the last

[45:03] century, it was huge compared

[45:05] with the other ninety eight

[45:07] years before But this first 20

[45:11] years in this century, You

[45:14] know, we have try to get close.

[45:18] to we can say to the creation

[45:22] of the activation,

[45:23] intelligence, that will be

[45:25] possible. The next step of

[45:28] humanity and the point of view

[45:30] of the mind on the point of

[45:31] view of knowledge Anyway, we

[45:33] are just playing. It's just

[45:36] going into possibilities that

[45:37] could be unnatural but it

[45:40] doesn't matter really What it

[45:41] matters is that we put a little

[45:44] green in order to let everybody

[45:47] know that we can redeem errors

[45:51] inside of us. It's just like, I

[45:56] don't know where the law of the

[45:58] monkeys. We'er a month of

[46:00] monkeys do something things

[46:02] happen. well, with certain

[46:03] amount of humans. go over

[46:06] certain levels, perhaps

[46:08] humanity may change also but

[46:10] we're not in a hurry. We step

[46:14] by step. Anyway, we will not

[46:17] see it in our lifetime. but

[46:20] anyway, we got the right

[46:21] direction and so much to do in

[46:24] our individual lifetimes to

[46:25] make our team better and that's

[46:27] that's what we need to be able

[46:29] to realize not that we can save

[46:32] mankind right now, right At

[46:33] this generation but that we can

[46:37] save ourselves from you know,

[46:38] whatever self destruction that

[46:42] kind of confusion about love

[46:44] creates as Miguel said it it it

[46:48] that dynamic of control and

[46:52] abuses of power take place in a

[46:54] family structure as well. It's

[46:56] not just in the human dream You

[46:59] will see that all those booths

[47:02] will become classics. just like

[47:05] the four agreements because

[47:08] it's a gift that life is given

[47:12] to life and life is using us to

[47:16] write these books You know, we

[47:19] step aside and let life

[47:24] use our brains to create the

[47:26] right words to send it to

[47:28] everyone and let them give a

[47:31] message of unconditional love.

[47:35] A message that will be true in

[47:39] our future. perhaps but we know

[47:42] that right now. If it's true

[47:45] for individuals, that's enough.

[47:49] You know, if you can change

[47:51] your world right now, If it is

[47:53] not just yours but also with

[47:56] the people who lives around you

[47:59] because you Mm hmm. yes, you

[48:03] change your world and you

[48:05] becomes a magnet. because you

[48:08] have something that everybody

[48:11] wish to have. it with. Your

[48:15] point of view. You just give

[48:16] them minimal chance to

[48:18] everybody else to just to put

[48:19] in what they believe. You don't

[48:21] tell them what they have to

[48:23] believe or not. So, just Put it

[48:26] out and they make their own

[48:28] choices. It's not about to

[48:30] control anybody. No, it's just

[48:34] to let know what we believe and

[48:39] perhaps It will make an impact

[48:44] in whoever gave life to that. I

[48:48] really recommend you to buy

[48:50] this book and read it. Give

[48:52] life to those books. If you

[48:55] decide is that what is just put

[48:57] it in the trash? It doesn't

[48:58] matter. We don't take it

[49:00] personally. but it may Just a

[49:05] little interchange the way that

[49:08] you believe about yourself and

[49:10] about everything. Anyway, let's

[49:16] see if Barbara can say

[49:18] something and and I don't get

[49:20] close. Like I say, thank you.

[49:24] Thank you, Miguel for all these

[49:26] years of teaching for the

[49:28] books. for the books that your

[49:31] books have inspired and and the

[49:34] change lives that have resulted

[49:37] and I thank everybody for

[49:39] tuning in because that means

[49:40] they care a lot about their own

[49:42] evolution and and their own

[49:45] little voyage back to paradise.

[49:49] and self love. Thank you. the

[49:53] same sentiment and like you

[49:54] said, there's no rush but why

[49:56] waste a single moment? So, I

[50:00] appreciate you guys taking the

[50:01] time. It's always a pleasure to

[50:03] spend time with you. Thank you

[50:04] so much. Thank you, Erin. Thank

[50:07] you and I wish you guys a

[50:09] wonderful afternoon and

[50:10] everyone watching a wonderful

[50:12] day, evening, and week and

[50:15] we'll chat again soon. okay? So

[50:18] much love.

In this teaching, Eros represents the principle of love itself. When you incarnate in a physical body, you are an expression of that love principle—your essential nature is love, not something you need to acquire. Over time, through conditioning, we lose touch with this truth and learn to treat love as an external goal instead.
Because we've been taught through family and culture that love is conditional, dangerous, or unachievable, when genuine unconditional love arrives, it feels foreign and threatening. We've learned to run from, sabotage, or shrink from love because it doesn't match our learned concept of what love should be.
The process begins with awareness—observing your own patterns and recognizing where you attach conditions to love for yourself and others. From that awareness, you practice returning to unconditional acceptance, starting with yourself. The redemption is gradual and involves unlearning the belief systems you inherited and choosing a different model.
The teaching distinguishes between unconditional love and naive acceptance of harm. Unconditional love means accepting someone's essential nature while having healthy boundaries around behavior. It's about not withholding your life force or love itself while still protecting yourself from abuse or manipulation.
You learn to love by observing how your parents, siblings, and extended family express love. If their love comes with conditions ('I love you if,' 'I love you because'), you internalize that template and apply it both to how you love others and how you love yourself, which limits your capacity for authentic connection.
Knowledge is what you've been taught, learned, or conceptualize about love—it reflects truth to varying degrees but is not truth itself. Truth is the direct experience of love as your essential nature. Your concepts about love often prevent you from experiencing love's actual reality, which is why we often feel unhappy in love despite seeking it.
Yes, according to the teaching. The redemption of Eros in one person makes it possible to pass a different message—the message of unconditional love—to the next generation. It takes awareness and choice, but generational healing is possible when individuals commit to loving unconditionally.
