Raquel Jordan is a yoga teacher based in California who offers soulful, yogic-based practices for building resilience. Her seeds of yoga were planted in 2002, while she was studying musical theatre in New York City. Each week her vocal coach had her drop into cat/cow while warming up her voice, and told her that "accessing the deeper dimensions of the body was the key to unlocking the voice inside."
Since then she has explored many lineages and manifestations of the yogic tradition. Living in New York and California gave her the chance to study and work with some of the world's leading yoga teachers. Meditation is a daily practice for her, and she describes it as an indispensable factor in the quality of her life.
Raquel has specialized in Trauma Informed Yoga. She has collaborated with New Earth, a non-profit that works to rehabilitate system-involved youth in Los Angeles. She has also worked alongside psychologists and therapists as the leading yoga teacher for a residential treatment center that helps women recover from traumatic events. Out of this work came her conviction that the practice is relevant to every human being. In her words: "At some point you will experience; loss, adversity and change."
Her teaching cross-pollinates varied disciplines to create a dynamic and nurturing environment for growth, connection, creativity and resilience. She teaches in Santa Barbara and online, offers Yoga Nidra recordings, brings yoga into corporate settings, and mentors within Off The Mat's training program. She also writes about the Yoga Sutras and has led a study group for yoga teachers on them. She travels internationally.
