Ann Licater is an award-winning recording artist, world flutist, producer and composer based in California. She performs on Native American, Native American-style and world flutes, creating music for meditation, relaxation and self-reflection. Her approach merges her intuition, spiritual perspective and traditional music background, and her music is also inspired by the natural world and its healing qualities.
Her love of wood and clay flutes led her to study with master flutist R. Carlos Nakai (Navajo-Ute), alongside years of classical flute training at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis. She holds a Master of Liberal Arts in Creation Spirituality from Naropa University, where she studied Art-As-Meditation and Spirituality.
Licater has released eight albums: Following the Call, Doorway to a Dream, Invitation from Within, Beyond the Waves, Quiet Spaces: Flute Meditations for Mindfulness and Relaxation, Whispers from Earth, Between the Stars and Echoes from the Forest. Her recognitions include Top Ten Best New Age Album from Amazon music editors, Best Relaxation Album from the ZMR Music Awards, and three COVR Visionary Awards in 2024, including Meditation Music Gold. Her recordings are heard on Sirius XM, Music Choice Soundscapes, Pandora and Spotify, and as in-flight entertainment under the "Well-Being" category.
She has performed at the World Flute Fest at Carnegie Hall, the Awakened World Conference in Rome and Florence, and the "Sound Body, Sound Mind" specialty week at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. Other appearances include Trails & Vistas art hikes, Agape International Spiritual Center and a Ram Dass meditation retreat in Maui. Her music is released through her independent label, Cul de Sac Mystic Productions.
Worth Knowing
Ann Licater is a California-based recording artist, world flutist, producer and composer who makes music for meditation, relaxation and self-reflection. Her instruments are Native American, Native American-style and world flutes, including wood and clay flutes, which she has played since her early interest in those instruments drew her into the field. Serious listeners follow her for a combination that is less common than it sounds: years of classical flute training at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, a Master of Liberal Arts in Creation Spirituality, and a practice inspired by the natural world. Her catalog runs to eight albums, from Following the Call in 2007 to Echoes from the Forest in 2025. Her recognitions include a Best Relaxation Album award from the ZMR Music Awards, which fits the stated purpose of her recordings. The draw is that the flute stays at the center of the music rather than dissolving into synth wallpaper.
