A Teacher Shaped by Stillness and Movement

Travis Eliot is a yoga teacher, meditation teacher, kirtan musician, certified Ayurveda practitioner, and author. He is also co-founder and co-CEO of Inner Dimension, a platform for streaming yoga, meditation, and wisdom teachings. A Yoga Alliance-certified E-RYT 500 instructor, he is best known for a dynamic, breath-centered approach called Holistic Yoga Flow, which he teaches in Los Angeles and carries to workshops and retreats around the world. His videos have reached students in more than 85 countries. Behind those numbers is a path that began with a nine-year-old's curiosity and passed through a Hollywood low point and two brushes with death.

Origins and Early Life

Travis Eliot was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His spiritual education started early. His mother introduced him to meditation when he was nine, and he spent hours with cassette tapes and books on spirituality, an unusual pastime for a child and one that suggests an inner life already taking shape.

He was also drawn to cinema. In high school he worked at TV stations, and he went on to East Carolina University. After college he worked on commercials, television, and film in Wilmington, North Carolina, before moving to Hollywood. The early interest in storytelling and the early interest in contemplation ran in parallel, and it would take years for them to meet.

The Turning Point

Eliot has spoken candidly about a difficult stretch in Hollywood that ended in a low point. Ambition in the entertainment industry had not delivered what he hoped for, and he found himself at a crossroads.

What changed things was a single class: his first, at Santa Monica Power Yoga, taught by Govindas. The class closed with a chant, and Eliot has described the experience as a homecoming. The childhood meditation, the search for meaning, and the physical practice came together in one room. It set him on a new path.

Two later events deepened his commitment. He survived a near-death experience in Kauai, and another during the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. After these, he dedicated his life to sharing yoga and meditation. He has not framed this as a career pivot so much as a reorientation of purpose.

Core Contribution: Holistic Yoga Flow

Eliot's signature offering is Holistic Yoga Flow, a style that is dynamic in movement but rooted in the wider yogic tradition, including breath, meditation, and philosophy. He also teaches Chi Warrior Flow. His emphasis on the whole practice rather than posture alone is reflected in his training as an Ayurveda practitioner and his work as a kirtan musician, which add dimensions of lifestyle and devotional sound.

Taken together, his teaching treats yoga as a layered discipline: movement to prepare the body, meditation to steady the mind, and chant and study to connect both to something larger.

Major Works

Eliot's output spans video programs, books, and music.

Programs. He created Sadhana, a Telly Award-winning program. His other offerings include Flow and Stretch, Level Up 108, PY 108, Flexibility & Beyond, and The Ultimate Yogi. With Lauren Eckstrom he created the time-based series Yoga 30 for 30, Yoga 45 for 45, and Yoga 60 for 60, which are designed to fit practice into real schedules.

Books. He co-authored Holistic Yoga Flow: The Path of Practice and wrote A Journey Into Yin Yoga. The two titles reflect the range of his teaching, from vigorous flow to the slower, deeper holds of yin.

Music. His chant album, The Meaning of Soul, debuted at No. 3 on the iTunes world music chart. Its audience is modest by mainstream standards, and his Spotify following is small, but the chart debut shows how his devotional music resonated within its niche.

Media. His work has been featured in outlets including Yoga Journal, Healthline, and CNN.

The Current Chapter

Today Eliot's work is centered on Inner Dimension, which he co-founded and co-leads as co-CEO. Through the platform and its academy, he offers streaming yoga classes, meditation, and wisdom talks, along with teacher trainings. He continues to teach in Los Angeles and to lead workshops and retreats internationally.

This structure lets him serve two kinds of students: those who practice at home, often far from any studio, and those who want to deepen their knowledge and teach others. The teacher training side extends his influence further, since each trained teacher carries the method into new communities.

Cultural Significance

Eliot matters for several reasons. First, he is a bridge figure. His career moves from film and television to yoga, and he has used digital media to make a physical and contemplative tradition accessible well beyond Los Angeles. A reach of more than 85 countries reflects how online platforms have changed who gets access to teachers.

Second, he resists the idea that yoga is only exercise. By combining flow, meditation, Ayurveda, chant, and philosophy, he presents a fuller picture of the practice, one that is physical and spiritual at once.

Third, his story is relatable. A hard period, a chance class, and a sense of coming home are experiences many students recognize in their own lives. Teachers who speak openly about their low points often make the practice feel reachable.

Eliot's legacy is still being written, but its outlines are visible: a body of programs and books, a chart-placing chant album, a growing teaching community, and a consistent message that yoga can be a path of whole-life transformation rather than a workout alone.
