Clive Johnson

Clive Johnson is an interfaith minister, writer, nomad and life-long spiritual seeker based in Essex, UK. His professional background was in management consultancy, IT and conflict management, and he also trained as a coach. He was trained, ordained, supervised and supported by the One Spirit Interfaith Foundation, and he is a member of its Interfaith Ministers' Association.

He describes his own faith as a mixed spirituality, drawing meaning from several faiths as well as from poetry, the beauty of Nature and archetypal tales from mythology. His upbringing followed a Christian path, which remains important to him. He has a particular interest in the gnostic and wisdom tradition of Christianity, is a student of Kabbalah, and practises Transcendental Meditation alongside other meditative practices. He aims to help people connect with their own "God", whoever or whatever that may be, and he does not try to convert anyone to a creed.

His ministry is itinerant and not tied to one place. He offers ceremony, words, listening, prayer, stories, guided meditation and spiritual counselling, shaped around what is right for the people he works with. In spiritual counselling he follows the conversation rather than a pre-decided agenda. He ends each morning meditation with a prayer asking where he is to go and what he is to say.

Clive has experimented with building online communities. He has hosted weekly chanting and prayer groups, a weekly vigil, a daily lovingkindness meditation and a daily group intercession. He co-hosts a podcast on intercession and the news. He also started Labyrinth Around America and A Prayer for America, an online community that prays for equality following the death of George Floyd. His books include The Heart of Lovingkindness, Tales of Old, Picturing God, Being Spiritual and Understanding Interfaith.
